Dan began his financial services career 20 years ago with the basis of a business economics degree as his starting point. During this time, he has qualified to Chartered Status (a mark of commitment to further study and standards benefiting those he works with) and has experience to compliment his technical skills; as well as a commitment to carry on furthering his own knowledge by additional study.
Dan has also obtained the SOLLA accreditation (Society of Later Life Advisers - an independent accreditation demonstrating skills, understanding and care when dealing with the elderly and vulnerable, their families and other involved professionals) and is our resident later life planning specialist helping people achieve financial security in older age as well as being skilled in Equity Release*, Care Funding, Inheritance Tax Planning, Pension and Investment Planning.
Later life planning requires sensitivity, understanding, empathy and for there to be a supportive environment that ensures the safety and understanding of any decision making. Dan’s approach is warm, never rushed and tailored to the person’s needs; we are all different. Often matters can be highly emotive; Dan can be trusted to support, understand and assure.
The key questions that clients have in this particular advice space are ‘how long will I live, how long will my money need to last, what does care cost, what does that care look like and where and how would it be delivered? Will I need to sell my home, what will be left to leave to family, what support is there?’ Dan can help answer these questions and more and be a trusted guide.
Outside of working hours, Dan is keen on keeping fit, cooking, gardening, running Bella beagle as well as getting away on the occasional holiday somewhere hot. He also spends as much time as he can with his soon to be husband James and their expanding brood of nieces and nephews. Dan is an active member of his local Rotary group, contributing to their charitable endeavours as well as being a dementia friend and supporting elderly good causes and mental wellbeing. Dan is a carer, himself. This year he will be raising funds for the St. James's Place Foundation by doing our 10th anniversary big walk up in the Scottish Highlands.
