Sam’s life was mapped out quite differently from leaving school after ‘A’ levels…. Sam trained at Laban Movement and Dance Centre after dancing being a stable hobby throughout her school life. Unfortunately due to a sports injury she was unable to pursue the career she had set her heart on after attaining her Diploma, so in a typical theatrical dancer tantrum she changed paths….. Much to her mother’s surprise and constant mocking she chose financial services, teased as she had to retake her ‘O’ level math’s whilst studying her 1st year of ‘A’ levels….. She have never shied away from a challenge!
Sam worked in debt recovery and unsecured lending in Peckham after leaving Dance College, put herself through industry studies to become a qualified adviser and built her own practice from scratch… Met Nik in 1998 at a specialist mortgage adviser firm where they discussed the pipe dream of what is now AFL Financial Strategies Ltd.
The firm was set up in August 2000, Nik and Sam worked together bringing their own dynamics to the table. It became clear that the business needed a full time ‘custodian’ and given the unrivalled technical talents of Nik and Sam’s pretty good skill sets in getting all things done she relinquished her license to advise in 2006 whilst simultaneously gradually increasing team which is now 6 advisers and 10 (some part time) support staff.
Sam's role, as she sees it, quite simply is the glue for the firm. She bridges the gap between consultants, St. James’s Place and the admin team; Sam keeps a keen eye on all things client centric and ensure all team members carry this through their daily work tasks. She holds the purse strings and ensures that the team have the right and proper tools to do the job and recently took on the onerous task of buying an empty, light industrial unit and transforming into the AFL Financial Strategies Ltd offices for hopefully the remainder of their working lives.
In her spare time Sam loves keeping the blood circulating with various workout DVD’s in her exercise room in an outhouse of her little flint cottage, in the middle of the woods; caring for her two rescue dogs an English Bull terrier and a cocker spaniel; little bit of weeding in the acre that is her garden!.... and loves her visits (where possible) to the cinema to catch up on the latest releases. She also helps the charity from where her dogs were rescued by doing doggie transport runs and assessing homes for dogs to be rehomed to.
